Redshift map showing positions of galaxies with velocity < 15,000 km/s, blue magnitude <= 15.5, and declination between 20 and 45 degrees, projected in Right Ascension.
Our galaxy is at the center. Sparse regions (wedges around twelve-o'clock and six-o'clock) are in the Zone of Obscuration, where our view is blocked by dust in our galaxy's disk. The CfA Great Wall lies on the left; the Pisces-Perseus Chain on the right. The linear features pointing at us are finger-of-god artifacts produced by the random orbital motions of galaxies in galaxy clusters. The structure just to the left of our position is the Virgo cluster. Data are from the CfA ZCAT (v. 2001). See Marzke, Huchra, & Geller (1996) for more details.
