The Local Supercluster in projection and in redshift space.

The Virgo cluster is at the center, the Virgo Southern Extension is on the left, and Ursa Major is on the right. Slice is 20° thick, centered roughly on the supergalactic equator. (Black points) Elliptical or S0 galaxies. (Gray points) Spirals. (Dots) Irregulars or unclassified. Note the apparent velocity caustics—concave edges—bounding structures to the left (Virgo Sourthern Extension) and right (Ursa Major) of the central finger-of-god (Virgo Cluster).

Figure is from Praton & Berger 2001. Also see Praton & Schneider 1994. Plot made with data from ZCAT v.2001; see CfA Redshift Survey.
